Angel & Urchines Anniversary Tea Party

We were delighted to be contributors to the A&U Tea Party in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. They raised over £20,000 – amazing.

It was only for children (I didn't get to go) – and looks like it was huge fun.

Pic N' Mix

If you hadn't already noticed this elsewhere on the site, it's worth flagging up the new 'Pic N' Mix' range. We don't think anyone else in the children's furniture industry is offering quite such a service as we are at The Children's Furniture Company. Colour is in they say... so why not liven up your children's bedrooms with a splash. Maybe a toy-box amongst your white furniture in 'watermelon' pink or a bookcase in 'grape' purple. The Pimento colours in red or green look fantastic with wooden furniture, maybe a nutmeg bed in oak and a red desk. Talk to us about the options, especially as we're still working on this area of the site to make it easy for you to be even more creative.

Green Credentials

We're as conscious as you all about trying to produce and deliver furniture in an environmentally friendly way. Some of the steps we have undertaken include:

1. The use of sustainable woods, such as beech, ash and poplar that are grown as part of replanting programmes.
2. Water-based lacquers for our painted furniture. Although it's more complicated to use water-based paints (for example the drying times are longer and big factories won't use them for this reason), we don't want to be chucking solvents up into the atmosphere.
3. Blanket wrapping. For as much of our furniture as we can, we blanket wrap. This avoids endless packaging and is completely re-usable. It might not look as posh, but there's no waste.
4. PDF brochures on line. Bit of a cheap shot, but quite a few people now are preferring not to have printed brochures and prefer to see the brochure format on line. So we've provided it.
5. New LPG van. It was time for us to up-grade the vans and we've switched to LPG. Although this costs quite a bit more in the first place, hopefully it's less polluting (until they prove otherwise); and let's not be too altruistic - no congestion charge.

We understand this mark is not awarded very often and is a real accolade from seasoned professionals within the field.
